Time management is a myth. Here is what you need to fix…

September 8, 2020

Time management is a myth. Time management, as a topic, is the business equivalent of ‘Get rich quick’ or ‘Lose weight fast’. Training companies promote time management training because it sells. People want an easy answer.

Well, here’s the deal- the answer is pretty easy but we have to start asking the right question. See, the issue is: you dont have a time management problem, you have a priority management problem.

Here are some thoughts:

If you want to fix your schedule, focus on priority management, not time management.

If you go to your upline with a time management issue, they will potentially question your competence. If you go to your upline with a priority management issue, they will likely jump in to help provide clarity on the most important things, wanting to support you.

If you have not clearly prioritized your workload and tasks, you will gravitate to the stuff you like, the stuff you get short term reward from, and the stuff that is familiar- in that order.

Try this:

Leaders and salespeople should write down the things they know to be the top priorities for the role. Then, compare notes. The next step is critical and that is the alignment of priorities. I cant imagine anything that is more a waste of time then working on something my upline doesn’t see as a top priority.

Once you have clarity around your priorities and alignment with those that matter, pull out your calendar. Are your top priorities reflected? Do they show up clearly? If not, start to make some adjustments.

This is only the beginning to the relief you have been seeking, but it is a powerful step.

When we, @WinSourceGroup engage an organization for the first time, this is generally where we start. Calling out priorities and aligning stakeholders the single biggest foundation to business success.

I’d be happy to walk you through our entire process or offer the next couple steps if you think that would be helpful.
